Rex and the Bass – One Million Page Views

Aloha!

When I started blogging in 2010 I never imagined that this page would reach one million page views, but it has and I certainly appreciate the support of my friends and family, as well as the music-loving public for making this happen!

I am still having fun with the blog, and get a lot of great feedback from readers, but it is time to make a few changes. There will probably be a change in the name of the blog and its logo (but the url will be the same), and I am looking at options for including video features, which may appeal to some viewers.

Anyway, thank you all for your continued support, and let’s enjoy this ride together!

Rex and the Bass 2016 Year in Review

Happy New Year’s Eve!

This wraps up my 7th year of blogging, and Rex and the Bass is still plodding along. I appreciate the support of my readers, and I read all of the comments that you post on this site. If nobody looked at these pages, I would lose motivation and move on to something else.

2016 is done and this page is on the verge of a few significant milestones: the blog has almost 1,000 posts, and Rex and the Bass is rapidly approaching 1,000,000 page views. Wow!

The side project of a blog has led to a few other side projects – writing gigs for Blues Blast Magazine and Chicago Blues Guide. Many thanks to their editors for having faith in me! It was a bit of a stretch this year as I was finishing up my master’s thesis, but somehow nothing went off the tracks.

As in previous years, here is a list of the top ten most read posts of all time for Rex and the Bass:

1. Apple A1121 iPod Hi-fi

2. Fender Jazz Bass Special Re-issue

3. Crystal Castles (2010) Album Review

4. Philip Kubicki Factor Basses

5. Little Dot Mark III Headphone Amplifier Review

6. Memory Lane: Pulp Fiction Soundtrack

7. Art and Lutherie Ami Cedar Parlour Acoustic Guitar

8. Gallien-Krueger 400RB Bass Amplifier Review

9. Fender Jazz Bass Special

10. Honda EU2000i Portable Generator Review

I have always said that I would stop writing this blog when it is no longer fun. Well, I am not there yet, so I look forward to another year of sharing with you!

Rex and the Bass 2015 Year in Review

Happy New Year!

This wraps up my 6th year of blogging, and Rex and the Bass is still a labor of love (and ego). I appreciate the support of my readers, and I read all of the comments that you post on this site. If nobody looked at these pages, I would lose motivation and move on to something else.

2015 had a few milestones: the blog now has over 800 posts, and Rex and the Bass is approaching 800,000 hits. Wow!

This side project of a blog has led to a few other side projects – writing gigs for Blues Blast Magazine and Chicago Blues Guide. Many thanks to their editors for having faith in me! Also, I have been getting so many CD submissions from artists that I started a blog just for music reviews, so if you want your music reviewed, feel free to mail me a copy of your work. And lastly, I have kept up a blog detailing my travails with going back to graduate school (one more semester to go!).

As in years past, here is a list of the top ten most read posts of all time for Rex and the Bass:

1. Apple A1121 iPod Hi-fi

2. Fender Jazz Bass Special Re-issue

3. Crystal Castles (2010) Album Review

4. Philip Kubicki Factor Basses

5. Memory Lane: Pulp Fiction Soundtrack

New Rex and the Bass Logos

Aloha!

An artist friend of mine put together some new logos for Rex and the Bass. I am super-stoked with how the turned out and think they give the site a fresh new look that is not a derivative of something that I found on the internet and modified for my own purposes There is no way I could have come up with something original like this on my own.

If you are interested in having something like this done for your band or site, drop me a line and I will pass along your information.

Rex and the Bass 2013 Year in Review

Happy New Year!

This wraps up my 4th year of blogging, and Rex and the Bass is something that I still love to write. I appreciate the support of my readers, and I read all of the comments that you post on this site. If nobody looked at these pages, I would lose motivation for this project very quickly.

There were a few milestones this year – I uploaded my 500th post to this blog, and Rex and the Bass surpassed 400,000 hits, with half a million not too far off! Also, I am happy to announce that in addition to Blues Blast Magazine, I am now writing for Chicago Blues Guide. Neither of these gigs would have been possible without the writing experience I have gotten through Rex and the Bass.

Anyway, I thought that listing the top ten most read posts of all times might be interesting for you, so here it is:

1. Fender Jazz Bass Special Re-issue

2. Crystal Castles (2010) Album Review

Another Big Thank You!

Happy New Year!

Well, this post brings an end to my second year of blogging, and I am humbled by the support from people that stop by to check it out.

I started Rex and the Bass to practice my writing skills and preach about my interests, and have met my goals for the blog for 2011. It has become much more popular this year, showing steady growth every month, and in January it will pass the 100,000 page view milestone. I never thought it would take off this well.

Just in case you were wondering, here are the top posts of all time (by page views):

1. Fender Jazz Bass Special Re-issue

2. Memory Lane: Pulp Fiction Soundtrack

3. Philip Kubicki Factor Basses

4. Crystal Castles (2010) Album review

5. Simon and Patrick Songsmith Acoustic Guitar

I am not even close to running out of things to write about, but if you have any suggestions, please send them along. Also, if you would like for me to review your album or products, drop me a line and we can figure something out.

Thank you for checking in today, as well as for the time you spend looking through Rex and the Bass. I look forward to writing about new things next year, and hope to keep you all entertained.

A Big Thank You!

Happy New Year!

Well, this post brings an end to my first year of blogging, and I really appreciate the support from people that stop by to check it out.

I thought this would be a good time to talk about why I am spending my spare time cluttering up the internet. This is certainly not a money-making venture, at least not for me.

I tell myself that I started Rex and the Bass so that I could practice my writing skills, using subjects that interest me (music and musical equipment). Perhaps the real reason why I blog is to fuel my massive ego. Take your pick.

I randomly pick subjects, based on how I feel each day. But, sometimes readers make suggestions about things they would like to read about, and if they fall into those two areas, I try to oblige them. If the suggestions are outside the scope of the musical world I write them down, and will get around to them when I start a blog about something else.

I am often asked if I really own all of the instruments and equipment that I feature on the blog. And the answer is “no”. In almost every case I have owned the equipment at some point, and have moved on to something else. But, either way, I have tried it all out, and usually only cover the stuff that I really like.

I can go ahead and answer another common question: “Yes, I do own and listen to all of the albums that I review”. If anybody would like to send me their album to review, please send me an e-mail, and we can talk it over.

Just in case you were wondering, here are the top posts for the year (by page views):

1. Philip Kubicki Factor Basses

2. Fender Jazz Bass Special Re-issue

3. Simon and Patrick Songsmith Acoustic Guitar

4. MusicMan Month: The Ernie Ball Forum

5. Fender Japan Keith Richard Micawber Telecaster

Thank you for checking in today and for the time you spend looking through my blog. I look forward to writing about new things next year, and hope to keep you all entertained.
